Five Minutes With Amelia Edelman.

Amelia Edelman – Deputy Editor at Meredith

1. Tell us about your current occupation and how you landed such a fabulous job.⁣

I'm the Deputy Editor of Meredith's new(ish) Finance Desk, which I launched in January 2021, working across Parents, Health, Real Simple, and Better Homes and Gardens. We cover any and all money topics but I'm particularly passionate about stories on how and why to bridge the wealth gaps for women, queer and trans folks, people of color, and other traditionally underpaid groups.

2. What's your best advice for PR professionals?

Know who you're pitching! The number of pitches I get from PR professionals who don't seem to have any idea what I cover or where I work is...disheartening. Or the ones that are completely confident I'm still working at the publication I left back in 2016 haha.

3. What's a fun fact about you?

I've been to 29 countries and 48 states. Utah and North Dakota, I'm coming for you!

4. Tell us about your favorite nonprofit and why.

There are so many, but in this moment in time it's hard to prioritize any more so than the ACLU and the crucial work they're doing right now—alongside Planned Parenthood—to protect women's right to life-saving abortion care in Texas and across the country.

5. What's your favorite meal, movie, or vacation spot?

Of course I'm sharing a vacation spot: A place I love to visit again and again are the highlands and islands of northern Scotland, where I lived briefly in my 20s. I've been on quite a few exotic beachy vacations recently, but I think I'm due a return to the windy moors next. It's been too long.
