Five Minutes With Emily Rekstis.

Emily Rekstis – Freelance Writer

1. Tell us about your current occupation and how you landed such a fabulous job.⁣

I'm currently a freelance writer for publications like Allure, MindBodyGreen, MyDomaine and many more. I've been in the media industry for about 10 years, building up contacts and connections with incredible editors, writers and fellow freelancers.

2. What's your best advice for PR professionals?

Just be patient with us freelancers! We don't have a lot of control over scheduling, assignments or even sometimes final copy. However, I know a lot of us do our best to be as communicative as possible with the information we do have. This means we'll reach out if we're working on something we need your help with and we'll share a link when the story goes live. Beyond that, everything is typically being handled in-house and out of our reach.

3. What's a fun fact about you?

I travel to Ireland in the spring every year to help out on a family sheep farm! I'm not always the most helpful but I'm great at morning feeding time.

4. Tell us about your favorite nonprofit and why.

I am on the HDSA NYC chapter board with lots of other incredible people affected by Huntington's Disease. My dad passed away from it five years ago, leaving my sisters and I at-risk. Naturally, spreading awareness and raising money for a cure and care are causes very near and dear to me.

5. What's your favorite meal, movie, or vacation spot?

I have a hard time picking a favorite so I just nail down my top 3 favorite movies (in no particular order): Goodfellas, Forrest Gump and Gone With the Wind.
