Five Minutes With Lauren Wellbank.

Lauren Wellbank – Freelance Writer

1. Tell us about your current occupation and how you landed such a fabulous job.⁣

I'm a freelance writer and regular contributor for outlets like Martha Stewart Living and Apartment Therapy. I started following my dreams of becoming a writer after my first baby was born in 2014, and over the years I've built up a career that I've become quite proud of.

2. What's your best advice for PR professionals?

I can't even count how many times I've received an assignment from an editor, gone into the search function in my email, typed in a keyword, and found a pitch for the perfect match. I don't think it's even about crafting the perfect pitch (because honestly I get so many of them that sometimes they all start to bleed together) but more about having the most pertinent details included in every email you send. For example, if you're pitching someone as a garden expert make sure you include the words "garden expert" in your email. It may be tempting to call them a "plant mom" or a "green thumb," but when I'm searching for a pro for a story I'm going to be typing exactly what I'm looking for. PS- if you have garden experts in your roster, hit me up. I'm always looking for them, anything cleaning related, and real estate pros.

3. What's a fun fact about you?

At one time I had SIX cats living in my house.

4. Tell us about your favorite nonprofit and why.

My favorite non-profit is A Woman's Place in Bucks County, PA. They provide important and lifesaving resources for women trying to escape abusive relationships. When I was in my early 20's they saved my life.

5. What's your favorite meal, movie, or vacation spot?

My absolute favorite meal is my husband's French Onion Chicken recipe. I ask for it every year on my birthday and for our annual New Year's Eve tradition of each getting to eat our favorite food for dinner.
